In Alaska, we did car-to-door witnessing when it was cold (which is, of course, half the year). Pack at least six people in a van, get out in pairs and do one door. Return to the van for five minutes to warm up. Shuffle pairs and repeat. Takes an hour or two to do one side of one street.

JWs have not "disfellowshipped" anyone publicly in several years

Technically true, but doesn't matter at all; they've said neither and my own brother won't talk to me anyway, simply because of a percieved "weakness."

Jehovah's Witnesses dismayed by new magazine format from Watchtower Society.
by Balaamsass inwow.
i was surprised this week by calls from active jws complaining about the new magazine format, and more begging for money from the platform.. frankly i was surprized by this reaction since this is old news to jwn members.
i guess actually shuffling to the bookroom and grabbing the new "awake tracts" minus the inside cover forward ...awakened many sleepy, catatonic, bored jws who never read the things or go on the internet anyway.. any feedback from other areas?.

ÁrbolesdeArabia said "We are receiving the greatest, largest portions of spiritual food ever!" When do people sit back and ask, "Is this really so?"
Interesting that you phrased the question that way, because that's exactly why they don't ask: because they've been programmed that the Devil asked that question in Eden, and all such questions that raise doubts must be from the Devil, so their minds instantly shut off before the question is fully formed.

Minimus' Post Gave Me Courage To Finally Post My Questions, New Here
by toweragent ini have been "lurking" for about four years now.. it was an incredibly weird experience just to look at a site like jwn or freeminds.
he came off very loving.. so, i decided that i would talk to one of my elders about the things i read.
if any of you have time to read this, thank you.

If you still believe than it all comes down quite simply to this: Jesus said the Father was looking for those who worship in spirit and truth, not in some particular place. The Watchtower's Kingdom Halls are filled with untruths, as you are finding out. Therefore, you should worship somewhere else.
That's the most basic logical arguement. You can just build from there.
And welcome!

The Introduction of Sin (concept)?
by Yan Bibiyan incan you, awsome peoples, please help me with grasping when and how did sin get introduced in the picture?.
i am not talking adam/eve and the serpent thingy.. i am going way back, following the chain of events.. seems to me that the very original sin was satan's rebellion against god.. if so, how did satan get this idea in a first place, how was he even able to have the concept of disobedience.... .
thanks in advance to all contributors..

Yan Bibiyan, you are correct, God is not perfect as put forth in Genesis. He creates imperfection, he has regrets, he loses his temper, etc. Like the Olympians, he's a being created in OUR image.

How did you fare in High School as a JW?
by PaintedToeNail infor me it was rather painful.
it was like pressing your nose against the candy store window, knowing that you can look, but you cannot partake.

I was homeschooled, which is a sure-fire way to grow a socially malnurished, awkward-beyond-belief loner (which is the point, I guess). It seems to be a popular choice by JW parents where I live. Whether that's better or worse than actually being in school and still seperate (lonely in a crowd syndrome) is difficult to say.

Psychics fail test in controlled setting
by EntirelyPossible inhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-20145664.
the test by researchers at goldsmiths, university of london, tried to establish whether mediums could use psychic abilities to identify something about five unseen volunteers.. the results, carried out under test conditions, did not show evidence of any unexplained powers of insight.. but medium patricia putt said this experiment "doesn't prove a thing".. this halloween challenge was an attempt to investigate whether professional mediums could demonstrate their psychic powers in a controlled setting - by inviting them to deduce something about people they had never met and could not see or hear..

Devil's advocate: Mediums and psychics are different; no wonder the experiment didn't work, since they didn't have any clue what they were doing. Not to mention that many forms of divination require contact to establish an astral link before any information can be gleaned.

Do You do Links
by Satanus inwhen people start threads by posting a link such as youtube or news, do you go there to see what they want you to see?
or, would you prefer that they ran a short intro or summary for you?
do you think that there is laziness on one side or the other?.
-
I Want to Believe
I hate links, especially videos. A summary takes seconds to read, but you may spend minutes trying to watch a video before even getting to the point. Plus, at least a summary helps to start the discussion about the link instead of just throwing it out there.

Need Advice. Quick.
by AwSnap ini apologize for being absent for so long.
i've got a jw at my house right now (unexpectedly) who is talking to my husband.
he keeps on bringing up that only jw's have universal love....that if you go anywhere in the world, you can mention you're a witness & you'll automatically be welcomed and accepted by fellow jw's.

I think I stumbled onto the eventual plan for the governing body teaching today.....
by EndofMysteries inon the jw.org site, look at the 2/1/2012 public wt, page 27 of the pdf...section 4"how are jehovah's witnesses organized today".
if anybody noticed, i mentioned i thought that no mention of 'faithful and discreet slave' possibly since 2010 in the public placed wt's.
i've read all of them backtracking to 2/1/2012 so far, and so far, my suspicion has proven true, no mention.

Ok, I can see where we have vastly different assumptions.
